About the organizations we will donate to:Â
- AIDS Committee of Newfoundland and Labrador (ACNL) is a provincial non-profit and charitable organization committed to preventing the spread of HIV, hepatitis C virus (HCV), and other sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections (STBBIs) through supportive, education and harm reduction programs and services. What started as a kitchen group providing meals to people in the community, ACNL earned its official organization status in 1988. Almost four decades later, we continue to support people living with, affected by, or at risk for HIV/AIDS and/or HCV. ACNL is located in the Tommy Sexton Centre, named after the beloved and hilarious Canadian film and television icon Tommy Sexton. Born right here in St. John’s, NL, Tommy died of AIDS-related complications on December 13, 1993. He was 36. We continue to honour and celebrate Tommy’s legacy and the love he shared for this world and his craft.
- The Jacob Puddister Memorial Foundation is a charitable organization that was created by Jake’s family to honour the son, brother, grandson, and friend Jake was to so many. Although he struggled with mental illness for many years, Jake prioritized the needs and feelings of all those he loved and cared about. Our mandate is to provide mental health resources to youth in Newfoundland and Labrador and to help eliminate the stigma surrounding mental health through various fundraising efforts, community partnerships, and direct services such as individual counselling, group counselling, and peer support.
- Iris Kirby House opened in 1981 to provide shelter and a safe haven for women and children who are experiencing domestic violence. Iris Kirby House provides a safe home to abused women from all walks of life – with support and the opportunity to explore alternatives to living in an abusive relationship.
