We all know how nutrition can impact our lives. How it can certainly add to our wellness experience! We have a three part series - covering very important nutrition practices to help better our members knowledge! Education is key, and understanding the multiple elements that impact our nutrition.

About the Event

This is a 3 part series!

Attending all 3 is suggested (for optimal understanding of all the elements), however...  

If you are unable to attend a session, it is okay and the information in each seperatley, is still valuable.

Session 1: Nutrition to support health and wellbeing (1 HR Jan.8th 1PM)

The 1 hour session will focus on how to best navigate the food environment to make dietary

choices aligned with health and wellbeing. It will introduce the NOVA food classification

system, and how this can be used to improve the nutrient density of your diet. The

session will also highlight some of the strategies food manufacturers use to encourage

us to purchase foods not aligned with health and wellbeing. 

Please note, there will be ample time for questions!

Session 2: Fueling training and competition(1 HR Jan.15th 1PM)

In this 1 hour session, we will discuss the role of carbohydrate in exercise performance, how to

best manipulate intake based on training load and to support body composition goals

(this will include a discussion of pre/during training nutrition); how to identify nutrient

dense Vs nutrient poor sources of carbohydrate rich foods, and how to “use” different

types of carbohydrate rich foods in the appropriate context. We will also discuss the role

of caffeine in exercise performance (this will also include a discussion on pre-workout

supplements).Please note, there will be ample time for questions!

Session 3: Protein – All you need to know(1 HR Jan.22nd 1PM)

In this 1 hour session, we will take a deep dive into protein requirements for athletes, including

a discussion on the role of protein in exercise recovery. We will also discuss the

pros/cons of animal and plant sources of protein, as well as protein supplements. If time

permits, we will also discuss the relative merits of creatine supplementation, and how

this can be used to support your training goals.Please note, there will be ample time for questions!

About Stephen: Stephen has over 10-years’ experience providing nutrition services to athletes from a

wide range of sports, from “weekend warriors” to individuals who have competed at the

Olympic Games and World Championship level. Prior to moving to Newfoundland in late

2019, he worked for nine years in Doha, Qatar, where he provided nutrition services to

elite junior and senior athletes across a wide range of sports, including soccer, track

and field and squash. Prior to that he worked at the Australian Institute of Sport, where

he provided nutrition services to the Men’s and Women’s youth basketball programs

and the Australian Rugby 7’s team. 

He currently holds Registered Dietitian status with

the Newfoundland and Labrador College of Dietitians.
